Laettner's Villains Defeat Big Blue All-Stars At Rupp Arena

Oct 25, 2011 11:34 AM

Christian Laettner's Villains team defeated the Big Blue All-Stars by a final score of 152-149 in overtime at Rupp Arena on Monday.

Laettner became a villain in Kentucky lore in the 1992 East regional final when he stomped on Aminu Timberlake just a few minutes before hitting a buzzer-beating jumper on a baseball pass from Grant Hill.

Laettner played up the theatrics on Monday and was ejected with two ceremonial technical fouls.

"That's just part of my personality," he said. "And I think it's something that made me good. ... You have to feed off that a little bit."

Laettner suggested UK fans were justified in their disdain. "They should be mad at me for what I did to their team," he said. "... The average everyday person loved that (UK) team."

The Villains were led by former Florida star Corey Brewer's 32 points, while Jodie Meeks had 42 points.

Enes Kanter made his Rupp Arena debut in the game.

Singler Believes Signing In Spain Was Right Decision

Oct 18, 2011 11:59 AM

Even though he was a second round draft pick by the Pistons, Kyle Singler is pleased with his decision to sign in Spain with Lucentum Alicante.

"Definitely," said Singler. "I know a lot of guys back in the States want to play basketball.

"It's unfortunate that the lockout is happening. You have your pros and cons to everything. I'm far away from my family and they're not able to see me play, but, this is what I want to do."

McGary Narrows Choices To Michigan, Duke, North Carolina

Oct 4, 2011 2:41 PM

Mitch McGary, the top power forward in the 2012 class, has narrowed his choices down to Michigan, Duke and North Carolina.

McGary has taken visits to those three schools and will not be making any additional visits to other schools.

"I know there are a lot of rumors out there that I've already committed to certain schools, but I can honestly tell you guys that I don't know where I want to go," he wrote. "I have not committed anywhere so that's just not true."

Michigan is considered the underdog, but are contenders.

"Michigan has been here to see me the second most and I know that Michigan will be good too. They're in the rebuilding stage and Coach (John) Beilein is another guy I really respect and like. They're moving up in the rankings too."

Coach K Pays Another Visit To PF Prospect Parker

Oct 3, 2011 4:56 PM

Mike Krzyzewski made a personal appearance at Miller Grove High School on Monday for the second time in two weeks to visit with Tony Parker, the 6-foot-9, 270-pound power forward who is ranked among the nation’s top 25 overall college prospects.

“Coach Krzyzewski just reaffirmed that he’d like have Tony in a Duke uniform,” Miller Grove coach Sharman White told the AJC. “Colleges are allowed to see a player three times in the NCAA contact period. [Krzyzewski] said he rarely uses all three of them but he did with Tony because he’s a top priority.”

Parker has taken recruiting trips to Ohio State and UCLA within the last month, and will travel to Duke on Oct. 28. Parker has also made an unofficial visit to Georgia Tech.

“It was great to see Coach K; he has been recruiting me since the ninth grade,” Parker said. “He’s one of the most powerful names in college basketball, and I appreciate him visiting with me and my parents.”
